Clive Barker: Dark Imaginer Conference

School of English, Trinity College, Dublin.

Wednesday, July 13^th - Thursday, July 14^th 2011.

Described by author Stephen King as “the future of horror” in the 1980s, Clive Barker has emerged as a polymath across fiction, film, new media, and art during the last thirty years. Barker’s contribution to the arts lies in his continuous return to the realm of the imagination; his novels and films traverse worlds of pleasure and pain (The Hellbound Heart aka Hellraiser; The Books of Blood), lost and forgotten worlds (Weaveworld) and the dreamscape of time itself (The Thief of Always; The Books of Abarat) among his many other contributions to the dark fantastique. This interdisciplinary conference seeks to address Clive Barker’s contribution to the Arts across all media, and invites proposals on any aspect of Barker’s multifaceted dark imaginings. This is the first international conference to address Clive Barker’s body of work across all platforms of scholarly inquiry.

Abstracts (300 words) are due by midnight, Friday May 20^th 2011.

Conference Particulars:

Conference Fee: €40/€25 (students with valid ID) for attendees and conference delegates.

We are delighted to announce that Clive Barker will be in attendance and will be delivering a plenary Q&A at the conference.

PLEASE NOTE:

Those who attend each day of the conference in full may attend the plenary talks, out of respect for the conference delegates. Please be aware that this conference is an academic space, not a 'fan' space and should be fully respected as such. We wish to foster an environment of discussion and academic development - public signings, meet and greets and other such endeavours will neither be fostered nor possible.

For public appearances, please see the Irish Film Institute's screening of Salomé and The Forbidden on July 13th @ 9pm. This will be a public event and will include a Q&A.
